A Little About Us

Kim and Allan have worked and cared for animals for almost thirty years. In Allan's home country, Sweden, they started with a pet dog and two cats and then moved to Tanzania where they worked in a game sanctuary with African wildlife. On returning to the UK in 1992  ( with their extremely well travelled, Swedish dog and two cats !) they had also adopted a stray kitten that had nearly been swept down a drain during a monsoon - their menagerie returned home with them to Northumberland."Kidogo" (the small one in Swahili) lived with them to the grand old age of 19 and soon many more four legged creatures joined "the gang".

Their passion and care for animals continued and The Sanctuary Wildlife Centre opened, by chance rather than intent, to rescue and rehabilitate injured British wildlife.

After 25 years of running an animal sanctuary and caring for all species including British

wildlife, exotics, farm animals and unwanted pets, The Sanctuary

offered a home to hundreds of unwanted, injured or abandoned creatures. In 2014 their rescue work was forced to end as the local authority decided The Sanctuary needed a zoo license to continue operating and as The Sanctuary was never a zoo,Kim and Allan closed their door to the last rescue.

In the summer 2018  Kim and Allan set up a pet hotel

as they had experienced for themselves just how difficult it was to find suitable facilities for animal care when needed, particularly for larger animals, exotics and small pets.

Dogs will always be their most popular guest but their doors are always open to any other pet that needs a holiday, home from home.
